With the moon in its first phase, early this week I decided to focus some of my classes on new beginnings and teach more yin yoga. The new moon is a time when you may feel introverted and lifeless, but don't worry - this is perfectly in tune with the universe. Here are my top lines from the class:
The new moon is….
A great time to set goals/intentions for the coming weeks (or moon phase) as the new moon is associated with new beginnings. Think earth, death and darkness (I mean the good kind where a seed is underground, preparing to grow in to a flower).
A great time to look after yourself. You are likely to have less energy at this time so its ok to say “no” to things. Don’t push yourself too far. Have a bath with loads of bubbles, or treat yourself to something you have wanted for a while. Just be kind to yourself!
A good time to spend on your own. Go inward and work on your spiritual development. We need time for this so take your lunch break on your own. Go for a walk. Sit in silence… and observe.
A great time to practice yin or restorative yoga - the gentle kind that works deep in to your fascia. Sometimes less is just more.
Happy new moon time yogis!
